K’mach D’Pesach (Passover Food)
What is the Mitzvah of K’mach D’Pesach?
K’mach D’Pesach (flour for Passover) or, by its other name, Ma’ot Chitin, is a custom of collecting money to buy matzah for the poor during the Passover holiday. Today, the custom is to give K’mach D’Pesach before Passover by distributing kosher Passover food packages or collecting money so that the poor can celebrate Passover properly. In recent generations, it has been established that it is a duty for everyone to gladden the hearts of the poor in honor of the holiday by generously providing them with the necessities of the holiday in a dignified manner. It is permissible to use Ma’aser Kesaf funds for fulfilling this mitzvah and donating to K’mach D’Pesach.
“It is a simple custom throughout Israel for each community to impose a tax on its members for the purpose of purchasing wheat for Passover and distributing it to the poor in the community, and anyone who has lived in the city for twelve months is considered a member of the community and is obligated to contribute with them.”
It is important to understand that many families in Israel live below the poverty line and cannot afford a festive Passover Seder with basic food items. During these times, their needs are greater than at other times of the year, so Tuv Lev – the Kupat Hazedaka Hamerkazit is increasing its efforts to distribute K’mach D’Pesach in food packages to all those in need.
The Passover food packages distributed to the needy include: poultry, wine, matzah, fruits, vegetables, food products, and cleaning products.
Be a Part of Giving
The highlight of our large distribution is characterized by the distribution of food packages – poultry, meat, and various consumer products such as toilet paper, cleaning products, and more – thanks to the generous donations you enable us to distribute to those in need for Passover. We have one goal – to enable everyone to celebrate a Seder with food security for the entire holiday. You have the opportunity to be partners in this great giving!
How Can You Fulfill the Mitzvah of K’mach D’Pesach?
For many years, we have had the privilege of assisting many families during the Passover holiday! Before the holiday, requests increase above our monthly average, so we increase the organization’s activity to distribute ‘K’mach D’Pesach’ and help more than 1500 families. We promise that every donation will help families receive food packages that will enable them to celebrate Passover with dignity. Additionally, you can fulfill the mitzvah of K’mach D’Pesach by making anonymous donations to needy families individually.
Public Seder Night
Every year, with God’s help, we hold a public Seder for low-income families, single parents, and the lonely. And also for normative families who want to enjoy a special public Seder. The Seder is held in the guest hall located on Spira Street. They enjoy a rich and dignified holiday meal. The public’s help allows Tuv Lev to hold the Seder for many families and enables them to feel like free people! We thank you for any donation, large or small – every donation will help honor them during the holiday.
